Crunchy Crunch

Greeting universe.

I don’t like to admit it but I simply don’t have any time to make any pretty GIFs or videos showing my progress for the 2nd post in a row.

But hei I can’t be amazingly perfect all the time, I’m only human after all. if you miss my GIFs and hilariously bad music you can just go back and re-read the other 10 posts.

The time known as the crunch time is upon us, this time its like no other, it has even reached a completely new level.

Last week I somehow managed to work 70 hours, and all of those are productive hours since somehow the concept of taking a break becomes foreign to me when I get hyper focused.

So to sum up, those 70 hours were spent on rigging the gun, a 8 jointed arm and well basically super gluing the dominos down figuratively speaking, to make sure they don’t fall over and we have a whole new domino effect of problems on our hands again, and that is all pure mel chaos by now, but most of my time was spent trying to find some way to make up for only having 2 axis for the rotation on the hip, which fucks over the iks legs if you touch the center of gravity, I thought I had found a solution for it, that did work well when I tried it out and it survived my quick testing but somehow, of course the animator somehow manages to keep breaking the rig, over and over and over and over again and that lead to its fair share of debating, but we did find a good solution in the end, it just took its time to find the best solution, and that is making aim group so the pv’s move automatically according to the leg and as well as the rest of the do not touch group, with a mixture of a lot of constraints in different places, only ended up re-rigging the entire thing a bunch of times until something worked. And I don’t know how but I also somehow managed to read a bit up on python as well because I’m just some sort of sick masochist, and I have to say, it made me miss the curly brackets, but it also ironically made me understand mel better.

But at least the rig is stable at the moment, nothing a bunch of coffee and chocolate can’t fix.

Now this evening I am looking into wire deformers and using that to my advantage for all the infinitive wires on the model, so that should be working before the morning or at least finished sometime tomorrow, so we can at least start a test render with rough animations so we have something for the end of term screening, even though we have time after the screening to add some last touches and fixes, and re render it before the final deadline.

p.s. it is borderline scary how long it takes my brain to 'reboot human mode' when I’m working this much and someone dares to speak to me and expect a reply.
