Brain overload on daily basis.

Greetings Universe.

Sorry for the all the silence lately but you know how life can get.

To say the least, last week was a bit intense.

So lets begin with the boring part, before we go over to the fun stuff.

The deadline for the literature review for the bachelor’s thesis was last Friday, so the majority of my time went into reading through countless books in a never ending quest of finding references to support the idea I have for my thesis.

(it's about rigging, just in case you might have missed that one, somehow)

And of course at the same time I got stuck using contact lenses because of a desperate need for renewing my glasses so I can actually see shit, so now my brain is completely fried.

I almost feel bad for the person that had to review my literature review submission, and try and make sense of all my incoherent scribbles... Well at least I did end up writing 600+ words on the process of joint placement that was semi coherent, and well maybe a bit ‘over explained’...

Truth to be told I did feel bad for my lousy excuse for a literature review, well until I got a surprisingly positive feedback from my teacher, which I was not expecting at all!

So the conclusion is that I don‘t need to rewrite everything and I am not as academically retarded as I thought. But still just give me a project or an exam instead of all this writing, for crying out loud!

So the next few days I will finish setting up a survey for my thesis, so I can start gathering data to further support and justify why scripting is amazing and why I need to learn it. So I can actually get starting with the fun part of the bachelor’s thesis!

I just really need to get over that pesky fear of reaching out to people and getting them to take the survey once it's ready, and pray that my survey is thorough enough so I won't have to interview people.

I mean, I know that they probably wouldn't be able to bite me through a computer, but you never know!

And I’m still thinking about maybe applying for a masters program after this. I must have gone completely mental!

Now for the fun stuff!

And heads up, if you are a ‘sensitive little soul’ or a ‘delicate little flower’, you might want to consider watching my videos muted.. My very questionable sound taste might either make your ears bleed or your brain to start leaking out your ears, so you might want to consider muting the videos. Some music is better than just soul crushing silence any way, but now you have been warned! haha

Now without further ado.

So this semester I’ve been tutoring one of the first year game students in rigging, since those poor bastards don’t have the introduction to TD course (witch is actually the only reason I got into rigging in the first place, so thank you Stefán)

Well since he brought up that the deadline for the submissions for the Norwegian Game Awards were a few days away, I ended up throwing together a quick rig in a few hours for him so he could just focus on animating it and finishing the textures for the game in time. And then we can double back and go over what I did and how.

Its far from perfect, but its not too bad for only a few hours and not having rigged a spline in a while and haven’t made a game rig since back in my first year at Nord.

Its only supposed to move idly, and then try and whip at you anyways.

The next day Ulrik found me at my office* and was in needed a quick rig for a spider, so his game would have a boss fight for the Norwegian Game Awards. And lets face it; I love rigging creatures, and Hildur did such a lovely job modelling it! So I threw together a rig in 8 hours, it would have been only 6 but those pesky little legs kept doing the flipedi-doo-daah. Which is why you should never skip leg day!

Might have been able to make it in 4 hours if I had gotten the quad model right away instead of the already triangulated model with no edge loops.

Even wrote a quick and dirty little piece code to help with the pole-vector positions, but it’s in MEL, but when the time is running out its better to just stick with what you know since I haven’t had the opportunity to go full on into python for Maya yet.

And this is how the tale of week 9 ends, with 55 hours of productive work over the week days.

The End.

*My office: Also known as the 3rd year computer lab or D-126. but lets face it, by now its known as my office since I’m rarely not there.

p.s.

I have finally discovered my greatest talent, are you ready for this?

It is..

Loosing the remote control..

Multiple times...

In one hour..
